In-ground Lawn Cutting System

The Concept

You've all seen in-ground lawn irrigation systems, right? Well why not an in-ground lawn cutting system? Just combine the principles of the in-ground sprinklers and a weed-wacker, and voila! Create a water-powered weed-wacker (should be pretty easy with any decent water pressure) and place them strategically in the yard. Worst case, you could run power out there as well, but that would be a pain for people who already have irrigation systems. There are a couple of issues...

String Length

How long can the string on the weed-wackers be? If they are too short, you need sprinklers dotting the lawn, all over the place. But they probably cannot be too long or they will be ineffective. Needs to be investigated

Objects in the Lawn

In addition to cutting the lawn quickly and efficiently, without some sort of object detection you will find pureed squirrels and chipmunks in your yard. Not to mention that you could get some nasty cuts on your ankle if you are stupid enough to be out there (this could be solved by providing a pair of aluminum socks for the household, but the squirrels are still screwed.

Possibilities include some sort of range detecting device (laser, echo-location, or whatnot), to make sure nothing is in range. One bonus this would have is that if you cut the lawn and noticed a patch of grass that was not cut, you know that that's where you left your portable phone or child out on the lawn last week.
